James A. Meek, 78, of St. Joseph, Michigan, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

James was born on May 20, 1936, in Hayti, Missouri, to James and Evelyn (Boone) Meek. He graduated from Saint Joseph High School in 1955. James married Lorna Akright in Benton Harbor, MI, in 1968. He was employed as a plant manager at Chardon Rubber Co. James and his wife owned a Dunkin Donut Store in Kalamazoo and then became the bakery manager for Family Fare grocery store in Dowagiac, MI. He loved to cook and bake, especially candy. James was a very loyal fan to the St. Louis Cardinal’s and Michigan State University.

James is survived by his wife, Lorna; sons, Mark (Beth) Kern, Michael (Patti) Kern and Gary Meek; six grandchildren; one brother; two sisters; and his beloved dog Dixie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
