Harry Schmidt, 84, of Cassopolis, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in Clark Retirement Home in Grand Rapids.

He was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Harry and Viola (Falkenthal) Schmidt. He married Lydia Jean Sparks June 14, 1971 in Penn Township. She preceded him in death.

Harry was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and history

Harry will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Laura and Jon Bull of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, Liam Carsten Bull and Eleanor Jean Bull; four brothers in law and their wives, James and Jeanne Sparks of Fenton, Lee and Mariko Sparks of Cassopolis, Glen and Nancy Sparks of Fremont, Carl and Dawn Sparks of Cassopolis; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. Mr. Schmidt will be laid to rest beside his wife, Jean, in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Penn Township.

The family prefers memorial contributions in Mr. Schmidt’s name to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Michigan Chapter, 1471 East 12 Mile Road, Madison Heights, Michigan 48071.
