What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

The Niles District Library will offer the following free events and activities this week. A library card is not needed to participate in any program. The library will be closed the week of April 27 for remodeling.

 

Monday, March 23

• 4-7 p.m. — Video Games for Adults

Help the library break in the Xbox One. Other game systems, table games, card games and RPGs are available.

 

Tuesday, March 24

• 9:30 a.m. — Special Edition: Fun with Food!

Lakeland Health teachers will show participants how to make fun and healthy snacks. All ages and abilities are welcome in this very family-friendly and accessible group.

• 9:30 a.m. — “Behavior as Communication” workshop

While children and special needs adults are busy in special edition, adults and caregivers can learn to understand and interpret challenging behavior in this informative session. Join Michigan Alliance For Families today to learn more.

• 6:30 p.m. — Pajama Story time

Family storytime with crafts, songs, and coloring pages. Feel free to wear jammies.

• 6:30 p.m. — Olive Branch Book Club at Massimo’s Backside Bar

Have a drink, mingle, and talk about a book. To register and pick up your book, come to the library’s Information Desk or call (269) 683-8545 ext. 112.

 

Wednesday, March 25

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., Storytime at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Squigglers (3-5 years) at 11 a.m.

 

Thursday, March 26

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1-4 p.m. — Western MahJong

Learn to play this challenging strategy game with a friendly group. Also, the library appreciates donations of any unused mahjong sets.

• 4 p.m. — Tween Book Club: Lost Treasure of the Emerald Isle

• 4 p.m. — Teen Book Club: Hyperbole and a Half

• 5 p.m. — TAC Meeting

Teen Activities Council is a group of teens ages 13-19 that help with many things around the library. They help choose books for the collection, plan programming, and volunteer for community events. • 6:30 p.m. — Tim Talks: Misconceptions About the Bible

Tim Smith presents a series called “Tim Talks.” He is an excellent speaker and knowledgeable on numerous subjects, and he will be sharing that knowledge. This particular topic is on misconceptions that many people have about the bible.

 

Friday, March 27

• 1-3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Bring yarn or sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while chatting and working. Rookies are welcome, and the library has few loaner tools to get started.

• 6-8 p.m. — Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)

Last night to see the SCA fighter practice. Starting in April (weather permitting) they’ll be moving outdoors to Kamm Island Park for the summer.

 

Saturday, March 28

• 11 a.m. — Books With Belle

Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” will help celebrate the end of winter reading. Belle will read some favorite Dr. Seuss stories, and perhaps lead a sing-a-long. Raffle prizes will be given away too.

• 1:30 p.m. — Genreflecting book club

Want to hear or talk about great books without being stuck reading a certain book? Genreflecting is a new book club that gives participants the opportunity to try new types of books without committing to a specific one. It gathers every three weeks to give reviews and choose new books in a new genre.
