Brandywine tennis wins own invitational

The Brandywine tennis team kicked off its season by winning its own indoor tournament at the Lakeland Tennis Academy Saturday.

The Bobcats won seven out of eight flight championships to defeat Galesburg-August, South Haven and Constantine.

Brandywine finished with 31 points, while Galesburg-August was the runner-up with 25 points. South Haven finished third and Constantine fourth with 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Bobcats swept the singles flights as Abbey Cole, Eishaa Rehman, Shaylee smith and Emily Erwin were individual champions.

Winning doubles championships for Brandywine were Alyssa Bolen and Rachael Szilagyi (No. 1), Katie Rose and Krystal Bunch (No. 2) and Shelby Fortune and Elizabeth Hartz (No. 4).

Galesburg-Agusta’s Maggie Jefferson and Kylie Stemparins were the doubles at No. 3 doubles.

“Just a great way to kickoff our season,” Brandywine coach Joe Marazita said. “All eight flights played well.”
