HARTFORD — The final score of the Dowagiac girls soccer team opener against host Hartford was closer than it looked according to Chieftain coach Ryan Haines.
The Indians (1-0) defeated Dowagiac 3-0 in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon.
“Our first game of the year was closer than the score showed,” Haines said. “We are are a young team and mental errors will happen more often. Nonetheless, we are still motivated and ready for our next game on Tuesday at home against Watervliet.”
Hartford led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Marissa Galvan in the 19th minute.
Galvan opened the second half scoring with a goal in the 42nd minute, while Ana Alonso scored in the 54th minute off an assist from Monica Perez.
Dowagiac’s Grace Younger had seven saves in the loss to the Indians.
