Lake Michigan College gearing up for race

BENTON TOWNSHIP — Lake Michigan College is hosting its 11th annual Steven C. Silcox Spring Training 5K/10K Run and 5K Walk on Saturday, April 18, 2015. The race takes place on the LMC Napier Avenue Campus and combines open road and trail racing. The race is open to the public.

Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. at the flag pole plaza in front of the Administration Building. The race begins at 9 a.m. Participants will be divided into age categories using five-year age brackets. All participants in the race will receive a tee-shirt and the top finisher in each age group will receive a medal. The overall male and female winners will receive a trophy and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Groups of five or more walkers or runners may also compete as a team. All team members must participate in the same distance. Those participating in the team competition will still appear in the regular overall results and are eligible for age group prizes. The winning team will receive a trophy.

The fee for all participants is $20 if paid before April 5, and $25 after April 5 and on race day. Registration forms can be picked up at several local businesses, including South Shore Health and Racquet Club, and YMCA locations in St. Joseph and Niles.
