Wednesday night Class B District girls’ basketball at Buchanan featured two games in which each game the winning team had little trouble picking up the win to advance to Friday’s 7 p.m. district championship.

The opening semifinal game saw Benton Harbor defeat Berrien Springs 76-53.

Kysre Gondrezick scored a game-high 29 points for the Tigers, who improve to 16-5. Berrien Springs, who finishes its season at 10-10, had Micah McCree score 22 points.

In the second semifinal contest of the night, fans saw host Buchanan streak past Dowagiac 61-19 to advance to face the Tigers on Friday.

It was a balanced attack for the Lady Bucks as they raced out to a early 19-3 first quarter lead and the game was never in doubt the rest of the way.

Freshman Jayla Bibbs stepped up on the defensive end causing trouble for the Chieftains throughout the game capitalizing on Dowagiac turnovers and scoring off the miscues to finish the game with 14 points.

“We did what we needed to do, we executed,” Buchanan coach Gabe Miller said. “We had a lull in the second quarter where we got into trouble when didn’t execute on defense. We called that quick timeout and got back on track. That is what it’s going to take on Friday. We are going to have to play together and play really good defense. We are not a one or two person team but a whole team.”

Jade Mosier had a good night on the offensive end of the floor for Buchanan she also finished the game with 14, which included three 3-pointers. Chelsey Bennett tallied nine points with a strong performance at the post. Brooke Wesner was held to just eight points. Selica Jones at 5-foot-7 controlled the boards at both end of the court and finished the game with six points.

Buchanan led at the half 32-10 and pushed their lead to 53-15 heading into the final quarter.

Taylor Hulett led the Chieftains with six points
