The Sixth Generation band is scheduled to perform at the Eagles Lodge in Niles March 7.

The Sixth Generation, a band that originated in Niles is returning to Niles for a performance at the Eagles Lodge Saturday, March 7.

Band member Ron Hamrick said the band would be playing unique remakes of well-known songs from the 1960s along with original songs written in the style of the same era.

“Just like when we were performing 40-some years ago, we play music from the 1960s,” Hamrick said. “Actually, the most frequent comment we get from people in our audiences and people who buy our recordings is, ‘Thanks for taking me back.’ And we get those type of comments very often.”

In keeping with the theme, Hamrick said admission to the show would be at a 1960s price — $3.

“We always say if it didn’t exist in 1969, we don’t play it,” he said.

After forming in Niles in 1966, The Sixth Generation band produced a song called, “This is the Time,” which was popular in the Michiana region.

From there, the band played at venues throughout Michigan and Indiana until disbanding in 1970 due to college commitments.

After reuniting in 2010, The Sixth Generation has experienced a resurgence of sorts.

The band was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2011 and released the song, “That was the Time,” which has more than 100,000 views on YouTube.

In 2013, the band did a two-week tour in England that included playing at the Cavern Club in Liverpool — the place where The Beatles got their start.

Next weekend’s performance will be the band’s first in Niles since October of last year.

“Our performances are always family-friendly, and our music is loved by people of all ages,” Hamrick said. “Everyone knows the songs from the golden era of rock, and audiences always thoroughly enjoy our performances. People in our audiences often sing along and everyone dances or at least moves to the music.”

The Eagles Lodge is located at 34 Sycamore St., Niles.
