What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

Tuesday, Feb. 17

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The Connection (Emergency Shelter Services)

This program of Emergency Shelter Services is a one-stop shop for help when housing is threatened or just for referrals and information. Representatives will be at Niles District Library on the second and third Tuesdays of every month. For questions or information, contact Lashonda at (269) 277-5055

• Noon to 2:30 p.m. — Making Change: Saving and Investing • 4:30 to 8 p.m. — VITA (tax prep assistance) program

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a service available to households that made $52,000 or less in 2014. Call 211 to schedule your appointment.

 

Wednesday, Feb. 18

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth to 18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months to 3 years) at 10 a.m., Storytime at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Squigglers (3 to 5 years) at 11 a.m.

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — emPower Heat and Energy Assistance Enrollment

TrueNorth personnel will be available to assist with filling out the emPower application for heat and energy assistance for electric, natural gas, propane, wood, pellets, coal, fuel oil, other deliverable fuels, and existing balances.

• 2 p.m. — ‘Learning Wednesday’ presented by Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce

This month’s webinar is “Who: The A Method of Hiring” by Geoff Smart.

• 5 to 7 p.m. — The Writing Group

Attention writers. Come check out the writing group. This group is for passionate writers to come and share their writing, experiences, participate in discussion about writing, and work on projects.

• 6 to 8 p.m. — Job and Career Fair

Tables are available for employers, and computers are available for jobseekers to complete online applications, brush up on application or interview skills through online tutorials, or to have a little help navigating online job posting sites. Employer registration is at www.tinyurl.com/nilesjobfair. Call (269) 683-8545 ext. 116 with questions, comments, or suggestions. Like every Niles District Library program, there is no charge for employers or potential employees.

• 6:30 p.m. — Readers Circle Book Group

Books are available at the info desk. New members are welcome.

 

Thursday, Feb. 19

• Noon to 2:30 p.m. — Making Change: Consumer Protection (held at Salvation Army)

• 1 to 4 p.m. — American Mahjong

• 5 p.m. — Teen Movie Night: Hairspray

• 6 to 8 p.m. — Knitting Group

• 6:30 p.m. — Securing Change: Debt Snowball (presented by UFCU)

Friday, Feb. 20

• 5 to 7 p.m. — Cookies and Canvas

Cookies, canvas, paint, easel and brush provided. Space is limited to 12 teens (ages 13-19). Register by calling 683-8545 ext. 106 or by stopping by the Youth Services desk.

• 6 to 8 p.m. — Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)

Everyone is welcome to bring their handwork or just come see others making cool things, and watch the swordfighting practice. Everyone is welcome and no special costumes are needed.

 

Saturday, Feb. 21
