A Dowagiac man is dead following an accident with a skid steer Sunday afternoon, according to reports from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies with the law enforcement agency report that Paul Williamson, 53, died after succumbing to injuries sustained while plowing in his skid steer. The accident occurred on the 22000 block of Fosdick Street in Wayne Township, at 4:36 p.m.

According to authorities, Williamson was reaching out of the equipment when his foot hit the hydraulic pedal used to lift the machines front bucket. As a result, the man became pinned between the arm and the skid steer, resulting a fatal injuries.

Officers with the sheriff’s office were assisted at the scene by crews from Wayne Township Fire and Pride Care Ambulance.

The incident remains under investigation.
