Dowagiac man arrested following drug bust

A Dowagiac man is in custody after a police search found over a pound of marijuana and methamphetamine inside the vehicle he was driving, according to release by the Dowagiac Police Department.

Jason Tabbert, 27, has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of methamphetamine, and maintaining a drug vehicle during his arraignment in Cass County District Court last week.

According to authorities, Tabbert was arrested by police following a traffic stop that occurred during the morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 8. Officers with the Dowagiac Police Department were on patrol on East Prairie Ronde Street when they stopped an eastbound vehicle near Jones Street for committing a traffic violation.

During the stop, the officers used Dowagiac Police K9 Cessy to sweep the vehicle. The dog located what was later to determined to be over one pound of processed marijuana as well as methamphetamine. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Tabbert.

Tabbert’s bond was set to $30,000 following his arraignment.

The Dowagiac Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
