Niles woman injured in accident

A 58-year-old Niles woman was extricated from her vehicle after a head-on collision with a teenage driver who was talking on a cell phone Monday evening in Niles.

Debra Anglemyer, of Niles, was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to the Michigan State Police Niles Post.

The accident occurred on Ironwood Road just north of Bertrand Road in Cass County at around 5:15 p.m.

According to police, 18-year-old Mafaro Chenyika, of Niles, was traveling south in Ironwood when his vehicle crossed the centerline and hit a vehicle driven by Anglemyer, who was traveling north on Ironwood.

Chenyika told police he was talking on his cell phone at or around the time of the accident.

Anglemyer had to be extricated from her vehicle.

Chenyika and his 14-year-old passenger were uninjured.

Police said Chenyika was given a ticket for driving left of center.
