The Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce is working with area churches and non-profit organizations to figure out how they can all work together to best meet the needs of the community.

“It seems like there are many organizations trying to work on many different things,” said Tyanna Weller, chamber president. “We thought that we could help aid the process of getting the local non-profits and churches to work together to meet the needs of the community.”

To accomplish this, representatives from the chamber and area churches have held Faith Based Summits to discuss what they would like to do and how to go about doing it.

At the last Faith Based Summit, attendees came up with the idea for a Niles Cares Initiative, which would focus philanthropic efforts toward one organization’s needs per month.

For example, the initiative for February could be providing diapers and car seats for the Women’s Care Center. In March, it could be helping the Salvation Army’s Red Backpack Program.

“We would let people know some of the specific items they can donate and we’d ask all the churches and the local people to help with the initiative that month,” Weller said. “We don’t have everything worked out yet, but that is the direction that we would like to go.”

The next Faith Based Summit will take place after the eye opener breakfast April 24 at the Michiana Christian Service Camp.

Those wanting to participate in the summit or help with the Niles Cares Initiative are encouraged to call the chamber at (269) 683-3720.
