Brandywine Community Schools is holding kindergarten registration at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 at Merritt Elementary School, located at 1620 LaSalle Ave., Niles.

Children are eligible for kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year if they are five years of age by Sept. 1. Parents should bring their child’s official birth certificate (not hospital certificate), immunization records, the name and telephone number of their child’s doctor, proof of residency, and telephone numbers and names of relatives or friends for emergency contact information.

Kindergarten teachers will be available to answer questions about the curriculum and kindergarten readiness screening.

The district nurse will also be on hand to provide information on immunization requirements and vision and hearing screening. A health form will be handed out which is to be completed by a physician some time prior to the opening of school.

There will be no admittance to kindergarten until all requirements have been met. Parents will be able to complete the registration forms and schedule appointments for readiness and speech screening. The readiness screening will be administered to all children enrolling in Kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year. The assessments will be given from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13.

Placement information will be mailed to the parents at the end of June. The March 10 registration night is primarily for providing parents with information, completing registration forms and making appointments for assessments. It is not recommended that children accompany their parents on this date. After their screening appointments on March 12 and 13, the children will have an opportunity to ride on a school bus.

In order to make definite plans for the number of kindergarten sections needed for next year, parents are encouraged to enroll their children on registration night.
