Brandywine wins sixth consecutive league championship

The Brandywine Bobcats locked up their sixth consecutive conference championship Tuesday night.

The Bobcats won their first five championships in the former Lakeland Conference.

With Brandywine’s 56-35 win over visiting Lake Michigan Catholic, the Bobcats clinched the outright BCS Athletic Conference West Division title.

The win improved Brandywine to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in the West. It was also the Bobcats’ 55th consecutive league victory.

After dominating the first quarter to take a 16-4 lead, Brandywine was outscored 11-6 by the Lakes (9-4, 2-4 West) to cut the lead to 22-15 at halftime.

The Bobcats regrouped at halftime and poured in 20 third quarter points to open up a 42-25 advantage and put the game away.

Brooke Smith led Brandywine and all scorers with 14 points. Emily Erwin added 12 points on four 3-pointers. Makenna and Michaela Hartline both finished with 10 points.
