Dorothy Mae Day, 91, of Niles, Michigan died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Michigan. She was born June 27, 1923 in Monroe, Michigan to Carl and Maud M. (Ivory) Hamilton.

Dorothy was a 1941 graduate of Niles High School (the former Central High School building) and retired from Simplicity Pattern Company after more than 35 years. She was an independent and strong woman; she was the first female to play for the Simplicity golf team and was a member of the Mother Voguettes in Niles. Dorothy was on the missionary board and was trustee for Franklin A.M.E. Church in Niles.

Surviving family includes one grandson, Heath Day of California; two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Oscar and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Day and her sisters, Emogene and Bondena.

Memorial Services for Dorothy Mae Day will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Franklin A.M.E. Church in Niles with the Reverend Rebecca R. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Mission Hills, Niles.

Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Franklin A.M.E. Church.

Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
