A heating unit was to blame for a fire that broke out late Tuesday night at a Niles fast food resident.

Chief Gary Brovold, of Niles Township Fire Department, said firefighters responded to a call of smoke coming from the dining room of the Wendy’s restaurant, located at 1411 S. 11th St.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke in the dining room, but no flames. An investigation discovered a fire that was almost out in the heating unit on the roof.

“It was minor damage, more of a clean up issue and clearing the smoke,” Brovold said.

No injuries were reported.

Wendy’s reopened Wednesday.

Niles City Fire and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service assisted.
