The Jan. 1 Argus listed the news paper staff’s top 10 newsworthy events in the Edwardsburg area for 2014, which included the Eddies’ run to the state semifinal in football.

This was a hard-fought, community-galvanizing achievement.

Nevertheless, I am certain that the EPS community recalls that in addition to the near-perfect 2014 football season, five Edwardsburg seniors graduated in May of 2014 having completed four consecutive perfect academic “seasons” to maintain 4.0 GPAs throughout high school.

Like Michael Caldwell’s “Reason for the Season” editorial in the Christmas Eve edition, we must be reminded of public education’s raison d’être, which is to maximize the potential of all students to be successful in life.
