Whether looking for something quick or a fancy evening meal, visitors to downtown’s Wounded Minnow Saloon will have the opportunity to give back to the community on Saturday.

The Front Street restaurant is teaming up with Domestic And Sexual Abuse Services to host a fundraiser for the local service agency, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Jan. 17. During that time period, 20 percent of all bills will be donated to DASAS.

The restaurant was approached several members of the organization to host the event, as it’s a popular dining destination for many in the area, said Kitchen Manager Mike Stooks.

“We are excited to be a part of this,” Stooks said. “Being able to give back is one of things we like to do as restaurant. [Owner Kyle Belew] likes to be part of the community, to give back when he can.”

DASAS, headquartered in Three Rivers, serves residents of Cass, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties, providing counseling, shelter and other services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual assaults. The volunteer organization has been around for the past 25 years, first offering a helping hand to people in Cass County in 1989.

In addition to offering the Minnow’s regular menu that evening, the kitchen will offer some special menu items, including a surf and turf dish, Stooks said.

“We’re going to have something is upscale, for people who want to come in and have a fancier dinner,” he said.
