You may not always notice senior Ra’Quon Glenn’s stats in the box score.

He is not going to be the leading scorer most nights for the Vikings, nor is he going to be their top rebounder.

But the athleticism and desire he displays each night make him a key cog in the Niles offense, according to coach Todd Pawielski.

“Ray is a tremendous competitor and a top-notch athlete,” Pawielski said. “He has been at his best on the big stage. He shows great poise and leadership. We are really lucky to have a guy like him.

“I don’t know if he is 5-8 or 5-9, but he can dunk. He is so fast and so quick. He just has so many attributes you want in a high-caliber athlete.”

Glenn feels that his job is to keep the team going, help prepare them for each game and push them in practice.

“I like to give them a challenge so they are prepared to play against athletic guards like me in the games,”he said. “I am a leader, but in a different way.”

And what is his favorite part of the game?

“I like playing defense,” Glenn said. “I like getting in a player’s head and make him shut down. I like to show people that there is more to the game of basketball other than offense.”
