Niles BPA students advance to state

Six Niles High School students have qualified for the state Business Professionals of America competition after placing well enough at Tuesday’s regional event held at Lake Michigan College’s Napier Campus.

Alyse Hoyt, Niles Business Professionals of America Chapter advisor, said the following students are moving on:

• Rachel Mackey, who took second in human resource management

• Alex Kelley, who placed fourth in extemporaneous speech

• Adam Noble, who placed first in fundamental desktop publishing

• Allyson Rouse, who placed second in fundamental desktop publishing

• Kristen West, who placed first in administrative support research project individual

• Riley Delinski, who placed second in economic research project individual

Business Professionals of America is a national career and technical student organization consisting of 23 state associations and more than 54,000 members. The mission of Business Professionals of America is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.

On Tuesday, Niles students competed against 350 students representing more than 30 school districts.

The state finals will be held in Grand Rapids at the Amway Grand on March 18-22. Michigan is divided into 10 regions and has approximately 4,600 members amongst approximately 170 local chapters.
