The glitz and glamour of one of the city’s longest running evening spectacles is set to take the stage later this month.

The 76th annual Miss Dowagiac Scholarship Pageant returns to the Dowagiac Middle School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. This year’s theme is “All Around the World with Miss Dowagiac.”

Twelve Dowagiac Union High School seniors will be competing in this year’s pageant. As in previous years, not only is the title and crown on the line, but also is several thousand dollars worth of scholarship money.

Last year, the pageant celebrated its 75th anniversary, with the celebration of its “diamond jubilee,” as the theme. Winning the crown that year was Mackenzie Whitmyer, receiving $3,000 that she used to attend Michigan State University.

Tickets for this year’s pageant go on sale tomorrow, available from 8 a.m. to noon at Caruso’s Candy Soda Shop, located at 130 S. Front St. Remaining tickets will be available at the Greater Chamber of Commerce office, located inside the Dowagiac train depot.
