John Siskaninetz, 86, of Decatur, passed away Wed. Dec. 24, 2014, in the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor.

John was born June 20, 1928, in Decatur, the son of John and Mary (Vorzan) Siskaninetz, who preceded him in death with several brothers and sisters.

He married Marlene Van Voorst July 28, 1951 in Decatur. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughers, Susan Hamel of Cassopolis, Margie (Fred) Leffler, of Decatur, a son, Lt. Col. William (Kathy Siskaninetz, PhD, of Oakwood, Ohio; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Paul (Betty) Siskaninetz and George (Nancy) Siskaninetz, both of Paw Paw, and several nieces and nephews.

John was an Army veteran and was a life member of VFW Celery City Post No. 6248 of Decatur.

John was formerly employed by American Coach and DeRose Mobile Home Factory in Cassopolis. He retired in 1991 from Delta Faucet in Decatur.

John enjoyed farming on the family farm, carpentry work and playing with his great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.

A celebration of John’s life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, in the Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, with James Abshagen officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Burial will take place in the Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur, at a later date.
