The answer walked among us

They say ignorance is bliss, but is it? There are some things we are better off never knowing, but when we discover the solution to all the ills of mankind was actually here on earth, spoke into every problem, gave answers for every question even before it was asked, and modeled life the way it should be lived, we must decry our ignorance and pay attention.

There was a prophet of Almighty God named Isaiah. Isaiah lived and worked in about 800 B.C. That is almost 3,000 years ago. What he said is as relevant as anything we could hear today.

Be honest. The world is a mess. Peace and safety hardly exist. Answers to all of life’s questions seem to escape us, and we chase the wind hoping to stumble onto solid ground. The deepest craving of our being, which is to belong to something, is like a dream.

Not that we have not tried, for we have substituted everything possible. And, yet, we languish in misery and doubt.

Isaiah spoke of One coming who had all the answers and was the Answer. He said, in the Old Testament book of Isaiah, chapter 9, verse 6, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Does that sound too good to be true? It is almost too good to be true, but it is true. That Child came, born to a virgin maid in the village of Bethlehem, Judea. His name was Jesus. He is the Son of man and the Son of God. He is everything Isaiah said of Him.

During the early days of Jesus in Bethlehem, some wise men came from the East, led to Jesus by Almighty God by means of a very special star. Those wise men “rejoiced with exceedingly great joy” (Matthew 2:10) when they found Jesus.

Like the old country song says, “lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,” we have looked for the answers to life from everyone but the One who is the Answer — Jesus Christ.

In this season, join those wise men of old. Ask God to show you Jesus. He is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
