Carey Lee Morseau, 54, previously of Dowagiac, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, in Syracuse, Indiana, following an illness.

Carey was born on May 16, 1960, to Leonard and Cecilia (Vanderbuttes) Morseau in Dowagiac. He was raised by his grandparents, Madalene and Raymond Morseau Sr. Carey graduated from Niles High School in 1978. He worked in the Trailer Manufacturing Industry and was very dedicated to family. Carey was a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and very proud of his heritage. Carey was looking forward to becoming an elder with the tribe. He enjoyed playing baseball and proved to be a great player.

Carey is survived by a daughter, Whitney Patterson of Wabash, Indiana; two grandchildren, Aaliyah and Myles; a brother, Leonard “Pudge” Morseau of Syracuse; sisters, Tina (Ervin) Starrett of Palm Bay, Florida and April Gibson of Dowagiac; his other brother’s and sister’s include, Marie (Jesse) Manley-Harwood of Dowagiac, Catherine (Mark) Ford of Dowagiac, Ronnie (Sandy) Morseau of Dowagiac; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carey was preceded by his parents; and brothers and sisters, Raymond Morseau, Sylvia Morseau, John Morseau, Francis Morseau and Tom Morseau.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery, 51841 Leach Rd. in Dowagiac. Burial will follow. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Traditional Drum Ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St. in Dowagiac.
