Pageant to take place Saturday at high school

Buchanan will crown a new queen this weekend to represent the city in the annual Miss Blossomtime Pageant.

Nine girls will compete for the title of Miss Buchanan 2015 when the pageant begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 inside the Buchanan High School auditorium, located at 401 W. Chicago St. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The theme for this year’s event is “Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone,” to go along with the Blossomtime Festival’s “Rhyme Time With Blossomtime” theme.

Kim Gaul, chairperson, said the stage’s backdrop would feature famous vacation spots around the world because the answer to the question of “Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?” is on vacation. A doghouse will be placed on stage with paw prints leading to the backdrop.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance from contestants, at Guys & Dolls Styling or at the door on the night of the event.

A coronation ball will follow the pageant at the American Legion Post 51, located at 403 E. Front St. Tickets for the ball are $5 at the door.

Last year’s queen, Roxie Elliot, went on to become Miss Blossomtime. She will be on hand to crown one of the following contestants Saturday:

• Chelsey Bennett

• Morgan Cabanaw

• Devann Jordan

• Michaela Scoggin

• Samantha Dehring

• Gabrielle Patton

• Ember House

• Marissa Claxton

• Gabriela Copeland

The contestants will perform a dance and two formal presentations before answering an on-stage question.

The 2014 Court will also do a dance and Elliot will give a farewell speech.

Visiting queens from surrounding communities will also introduce themselves.

Local attorney John Colip will serve as master of ceremonies.
