Dec. 28, 1942 — Nov. 27, 2014

Robert Walter Millin was born in Mount Hope, Wisconsin, Dec. 28, 1942, and began raising hell shortly after. He was known as “Bob” to everyone. If he was called Robert, he was either in trouble or had to sign something.

Bob’s family moved to Niles and he attended school in Edwardsburg. He graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1958 and promptly caught the eye and affections of Merielyn Hossfield. Meri adored and tolerated Bob for over 52 years. Bob and Meri had four boys; Scott, Andy, Gene and Jeff.

Bob took his fashion queues from no one. He had a cultivated style of his own that resulted in an extensive collection of t-shirts adorned with messages to make the eyes water. The family was grateful he wore bib-overalls most of the time.

Bob had a hard time wearing a button down shirt, mostly due to pride in his four boys. The buttons kept spontaneously popping off. This condition only intensified when his nine grandchildren came along.

His skills as a grandpa were unmatched. He took his grandfather duties very seriously and never missed an opportunity to practice.

At home, the door was always open and the coffee pot was on. Usually it had been on too long, as the coffee wasn’t very good. It didn’t matter as you were met with a sheepish grin that would melt your heart and make you forgive just about anything.

Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. More than anything he enjoyed family. He was an original that cannot be imitated or replaced.

Robert W. ‘Bob’ Millin died peacefully in his home on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, in Niles, Michigan at the age of 71.

He is preceded in death by his parents Walter “Buck” Millin and Leora (Cohoe) Millin, and a sister, Dorothy.
