Loretta “Rita” E. Yount, 80, of Dowagiac, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at The Timbers of Cass County.

Loretta was born September 4, 1934 to Fabian and Nellie (Alexis) Wesaw on Priest Street in Dowagiac, Michigan. When she graduated, Loretta married, started her family and her career in the Government Defense Supply Agency. Upon moving back to Michigan she resided in Grand Rapids, then returning to her birth home in Dowagiac on Priest Street. Loretta worked for many years as an administrator for the Native American Tribal Affairs Department with the Pokagon Band. Loretta’s love for her family and life was very important to her. Many family gatherings were spent in her home, along with years of summer family vacations on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Loretta is survived by her daughter, Andrea Yount of Dowagiac and her son, David (Jodie) Yount of Wyoming, Michigan. She is also survived by two brothers, Louis and Tom Wesaw. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Karen, two brothers, Rhinehart and Jim Wesaw and three sisters Sharon Winters, Karen Winchester and Marcia Wesaw.
