Ring Lardner basketball teams off to quick start

The Ring Lardner seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams swept Buchanan Tuesday.

The seventh grade edged the Bucks 34-33 thanks to a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Brayden Lake.

Lake finished with seven points. The Vikings also got eight points from De’Marien Nichols, seven points from Drew Gourley and six points from Jacob Wolfe. Jamison Zimmerman and Nolan Garrard both added a basket.

The eighth grade had a much easier time as it defeated Buchanan 54-17.

Xavier Jordan led Niles with 12 points. Austin Brookins and Devin Jennings both finished with six points, while Austin Huffman added five points.

Kallen Delinski AJ Shafer and Richie Heath all finished with four points. Damien Downham added three points.

On Monday, the seventh grade needed triple overtime to defeat St. Joseph 47-45.

Nichols led the Vikings with 16 points, while Lake added eight points and Gourley six.

Ja’Wan Taylor and Garrard both finished with four points.

The eighth grade dropped a 43-31 decision to the Bears.

Brookins led the way with 11 points. Jordan finished with six, while Shafer and Heath both had three points.
