Niles armed robberies believed to be connected

Police believe two recent armed robberies in the city of Niles are related.

The most recent incident took place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lucky 7 Food Mart, located at the corner of Grant and Lincoln streets.

According to the Niles Police Department, two subjects wearing masks, heavy clothing and gloves entered the store armed with handguns. They demanded money from the clerk and fled on foot to the west of the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police said the suspects in the robbery were standing on the side of the building for an extended period of time and may have been seen by numerous motorists passing by.

The other robbery occurred at 2:40 a.m. Nov. 9 (six days earlier) at the Admiral Gas Station at 640 Chicago Rd. The subjects were again armed with handguns and wearing masks, heavy clothing and gloves. They demanded money from the clerk and left on foot after gathering an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured in either robbery.
