A Niles woman with multiple prior convictions for domestic violence was back in court Monday for a sentencing hearing on charges stemming from another domestic violence incident, this time involving her husband.

“Until one of you stops drinking I am going to keep seeing you here,” said Berrien County Trial Court Judge Dennis Wiley, prior to sentencing April Mae Horton to 180 days in jail on one count of resisting and obstructing police.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Horton assaulted her husband by grabbing his face during an argument on July 3 in Niles.

The confrontation left the victim with scratch marks on his face, according to a police report.

Horton resisted arrest following the incident, which led to her being charged with resisting and obstructing police, a felony punishable by a maximum of two years in prison.

Horton pleaded no contest to the charges of domestic violence and resisting and obstructing police.

Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Sanford said Horton has five prior convictions for domestic violence and four for resisting and obstructing police.

Horton admitted she has a drinking problem and told the judge she would seek help.
