Saint Nick rides into downtown Niles Saturday

Santa Claus is coming to Niles this weekend courtesy of the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber’s 31st annual Santa’s Big Arrival is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater in downtown Niles.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Niles District Library.

Jim Matthews, of the chamber, said they would likely make a decision on the location by the middle of the week.

“So far the forecast isn’t looking good,” he said.

The good news for area children is that the show will go on regardless of its location at the same time.

This popular free event is open to the public and draws an average of around 500 people each year, Matthews said.

Children and families can enjoy complimentary hot chocolate, donut holes and coffee. All children will receive a free gift provided by the chamber and local sponsors. Santa Claus will arrive via fire truck at 11 a.m., in partnership with the Niles Fire Department.

There will be a photographer and lively music. The photos will be provided by the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce, and photos of children with Santa Claus with holiday frames will be available for purchase, or attendees can bring their own camera.

New this year, the Niles Young Leaders will be offering children’s games.

The Four Flags Chamber of Commerce, first established in 1919, has been in continuous operation since 1930, and serves nearly 40,000 people in four townships.
