Ernestine Holmes, 79, of Niles passed away at her home on Saturday, November 8, 2014.

Ernestine was born on Feb. 14, 1935, to the late Ernest and Beverly (Chalfant) Endres in Wichita, Kansas; she was the second of four children. After graduating from high school Ernestine wed Stuart King. She then opened a submarine sandwich shop in Topeka, Kansas. Ernestine began to work for Simplicity Pattern in Niles where she met John Holmes. The two wed at a ceremony in 1979 in Niles. Ernestine worked at Simplicity Pattern Company for 25 years before she retired. She loved cars, music and enjoyed swimming.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Endres; mother, Beverly (Chalfant) Endres-Kaiser and older sister, Bessie Armstrong.

Ernestine is survived by her loving husband of 36 years husband, John C. Holmes of Niles; children, Jan (Joe) Huse of Rowlett, Texas, Kirk King of Topeka, Kansas and Julie (Jason) Goodman of Columbia, Tennessee; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and brothers, Benjamin (Cathy) Endres of South Bend, Indiana and John (Melissa) Kaiser of New York, New York.

A memorial service to honor Ernestine’s life will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 11 a.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior.
