A couple thousand people on the westside of Niles were without power due to an equipment failure Tuesday morning into the early afternoon.

City Utilities Manager Jeff Dunlap said an insulator blew on a line that feeds the westside substation, knocking the substation offline at 11:47 a.m.

As a result, a couple thousand people were left without power on the westside of the city.

Dunlap said the city got power back to their last customer by 1:47 p.m.

The power outage is being blamed on equipment failure at this time.
