The rematch Friday between the Edwardsburg football team and Vicksburg had a much different outcome.

In a Division 4 district final, the Eddies avenged a regular season loss to the Bulldogs and posted a 34-6 win.

Edwardsburg’s lone loss during the regular season came to Vicksburg, 16-14.

The 10-1 Eddies, who are district champions for the first time since 2010, advance to host Eaton Rapids (8-3) for a regional championship next Friday at 7 p.m.

“(During the regular season) we were able to see what (Vicksburg) did defensively,” said Edwardsburg football coach Kevin Bartz. “We were very inexperienced and they threw three different defenses at us and confused us. We changed some blocking schemes and tried to keep things a little bit tighter against them. Offensively, we were much more efficient tonight.”

The Eddies totaled 386 yards, including 346 yards rushing, and 20 first downs against the Bulldogs, who finish at 8-3.

Edwardsburg running back Isaiah Miller rushed for 151 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. Miller’s 57 and 14-yard touchdown runs gave the Eddies a 14-0 first quarter lead.

In the second half, Edwardsburg quarterback Dante Razzano tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Mason Tinch and an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Gaideski. Gaideski made a great leaping catch in the right corner of the end zone on his scoring play.

The Eddies scored touchdowns on five of its seven drives.

Defensively, Vicksburg was held to 141 yards.

“This was our best defensive game of the year,” Bartz said. “We did a great job of shutting their running game down. We played a lot more aggressively.”

Edwardsburg, which has now outscored its opponents 484 points to 256, seem to be peaking at the right time.

“It’s exciting for the program to win another district title,” Bartz said. “We showed that we could play through a lot of adversity and I think that prepared us for later in the season.”
