Jerry Tibbs said he was blown away when he saw the results of Tuesday’s election for the Brandywine Community Schools Board of Education.

Of the six people vying for four seats, Tibbs received the most votes, according to unofficial totals from electionmagic.com.

“I was very happy when I saw that,” Tibbs said. “I knew I had support, but I didn’t know I had that much. There must be a lot of people that have confidence in me.

“I really appreciate everyone’s support and will continue to do the best I can to move the school district in the right direction.”

Electionmagic.com shows that Tibbs received 964 votes, while Dennis Hinsey brought in 941, Ralph Skinner 933, Jason Spitler 795, August Garritano 734 and Ronald Geer zero.

Carolyn Toliver, elections administrator for Berrien County, said official results likely would not be ready until the end of the week.

Tibbs and Spitler were appointed to the board earlier this year when two longtime members resigned. Skinner will join Tibbs and Spitler as members serving their first full terms on the board.

There will be a change on the Niles Community Schools Board of Education.

Incumbent Mark Wortham was the only member of the board not to be re-elected, according to unofficial results.

Newcomer Leigh Erica Jones received the most votes with 2,506, followed by incumbents Brent Wright 2,270 and Greg O’Toole 2,238. Wortham brought in 2,185 votes. The candidates were vying for three open seats.

Incumbent Jeff Curry claimed a partial term on the Niles school board running uncontested.

In Buchanan, Sandy Tobler, James DeVlaminck and Dennis Wentworth were elected to the school board. Only three people were running for three open seats.
