Nov. 4 Election: Bertrand Twp., Buchanan Commissioner

Several city and township races concerning the greater Niles area were decided in Tuesday’s election.

Here is a roundup of the results released so far .

Bertrand Township

In the race for Bertrand Township Supervisor, incumbent Steve Hicks defeated write-in Mike Gillette by a vote of 500 to zero, according to unofficial results obtained by the website electionmagic.com.

Hicks, a Republican, had support from 42.6 percent of registered voters in the township during Tuesday’s election.

Republican Stephen LeClaire, running unopposed for Bertrand Township Trustee, garnered 649 votes, accounting for just over 42 percent of the votes.

Republican David Kuhn defeated challenger Melissa H. Karl by a vote of 650 to zero.

Buchanan City Commissioner

With three seats up for grabs in the race for Buchanan City Commissioner, Daniel R. Vigansky, Carla M. Cole and Boyd E. Vanderlaan came out winners in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial Election Magic results.

Cole brought in the most votes with 540, while Vigansky had 534 and Vanderlaan 477. Competitor Michael Fryback lost out in the election.
