Re-elect trustees at SMC

I was pleased to see so many people turn out for Southwestern Michigan College’s 50th anniversary celebration. What a great institution. It is easy to see why our college is indeed one of this nation’s premier community colleges.

Personally I am proud to have been on board in support of a local community college from its inception, serving for many years on the Foundation Board of Directors, and as president of the foundation on two different occasions.

My foundation affiliation has given me a chance to see the college operation up close. I have been able to appreciate the fine faculty, administration, and support staff the college enjoys.

The stability, balanced budgets, fine facilities, growth and overall success is in no small measure due to the history of having outstanding Boards of Trustees. Today’s board is an example of the great trustees the college has had for these 50 years. Trustees serve without pay, but continue to attract and retain people who put students, the community, and the college ahead of their own interests. They work well together.

Three of these fine trustees are up for election next month, on Tuesday, Nov. 4. They are Tom Jerdon, Becky Moore, and Paul File. All are successful business people in their private lives and have provided great service to the college and community.

I strongly support all three and encourage everyone to cast a ballot for them on Nov. 4.
