Niles comes up short against St. Joseph

THREE RIVERS — A pair of goals by St. Joseph’s Sam McIntosh ended the Niles soccer season Wednesday.

McIntosh’s second goal in the 52nd minute snapped a 1-1 tie as the Bears advances to the Division 2 District semifinals on Saturday with a 2-1 win over the Vikings at Three Rivers High School.

McIntosh’s goal with just seconds remaining in the opening have gave St. Joseph a 1-0 halftime advantage.

Niles tied the score at 1-1 41 seconds into the second half on a goal by Sam Rodts after the Vikings were awarded a penalty kick.

The match remained tied for the next 10 minutes before McIntosh found the back of the net again for the game-winner.

The Bears held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Niles keeper Mike Farinella stopped five of those shots.
