Another step toward helping end the cycle of homelessness and poverty will happen with the cooperation by many organizations and volunteers.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, The Cass County Housing Taskforce (formerly known as the Continuum of Care (CoC) will hold Project Connect at Squires Education Center, 725 Center St. in Cassopolis.

Project Connect is a national project, coordinated through the local homeless coalitions and supported by the Michigan Supportive Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).

Many area agencies will set up booths to give information to those who might need assistance. Volunteers will check people in, directing them to the proper services they might need.

Information on food assistance, housing, legal aid, senior services, utility assistance, education and health will all be offered in one place.

Connecting people with the resources, is the main purpose of the day, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a free lunch provided.

People can learn how to sign up for food assistanceor get a free blood pressure screening, among other things. It is hoped that the members of the task force will also receive input, to help with make the local housing plan relevant to our community.

If anyone would like free transportation to the event, they can call the Cass County Transportation Authority at 445-2455 at least 48 hours in advance. For information on participating call, Joyce Miller at (269) 471-7725.
