Lynn E. Thornton, 69, of Niles, Michigan died at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at his home, having been ill since January.

He was born on March 10, 1945 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Lee E. and Cecilia “Cekie” (Maenhout) Thornton. He was a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam Era. He was an automobile salesman, being most recently employed by Jordan Ford in Miskawaka, Indiana.

Lynn was a member of the Royal Order of the Moose, Lodge #449 in Buchanan, Michigan.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving family includes his sisters, Sandie (and Ron) Walker of Ellenton, Florida and Pamela Schwind of West Palm Beach, Florida.

The funeral service for Lynn Thornton will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Chaplain Scott Labbe of Hospice at Home, officiating. The service will conclude with the Veteran’s Flag Presentation and Taps by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Lynn Thornton may be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, Indiana 46614 or Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, Saint Joseph, Michigan 49085.
