BUCHANAN — With 501 yards of total offense and 35 second half points Friday night, the visiting Brandywine Bobcats overwhelmed Buchanan 56-21 in a BCS Athletic Conference clash.

After the Bucks (2-5) tied the score at 21-21 early in the third quarter on an 18-yard fumble return by Justin Ruth, the Bobcats (6-1) put their foot on the gas and pulled away.

Brandywine scored 35 unanswered points to earn an automatic berth in the MHSAA playoffs for the third consecutive season.

Marty Ward Jr. scored on a 5-yard run to put the Bobcats head for good. That touchdown was set up by a fake punt and a 33-yard run by Vinnie Peel for a first down. He would add a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter and finished the night with three scores.

Vinnie Peel added a 5-yard run, while Andrew Duckett returned an interception 70 yards and scored on a 68-yard run. Duckett would also run for a 60-yard touchdown and throw a 32-yard touchdown to Austin Knapp.

Buchanan got touchdowns from Alex Martinez on a 74-yard pass from Jarrett Thomas and a 2-yard run by Jacob Graham to go with the fumble return by Ruth.

Brandywine ran for 379 yards and threw for 122 yards as Duckett was 8-of-13.

Duckett had 156 yards rushing and Ward had 131 on the ground for the Bobcats.

The Bucks finished with 166 yards on the ground and threw for 206 as Jarrett was 12-of-26 with an interception.

Thomas ended the evening with 137 yards threw the air and 76 on the ground.
