Ninety-two Niles High School students, parents and teachers registered to donate and 61 units of life-saving blood were collected.

According to The Medical Foundation, one unit of blood can save the lives of up to three people, meaning potentially 183 recipients will have another chance at life.

The Medical Foundation reports that a significant percentage of the blood inventory collected comes from area high school drives, which give students the opportunity to learn leadership by organizing the event and a chance to understand the importance of giving back to the community.

For other donating opportunities in the Niles community, The Medical Foundation will be hosting blood drives at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA Monday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13; Old National Bank Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 17; and West Woods of Niles from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 17.
