For those who believe there are no bad days, when you come home to a dog’s love, Under the Harvest Moon in downtown Dowagiac has just the event for you.

Allexia “Ale” Forburger, of D. MottL Realty Group and owner of Dog E Style pet grooming in Buchanan, will present the fall festival’s Parade of Halloween Hounds on Saturday, Oct. 11. Hosted by the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, this community’s autumn celebration also features a display of new and vintage farm tractors and an outdoor marketplace of more than 40 vendors of handmade goods, produce and baked goods, and offers a full day of fun for families.

Forburger, who is a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is the managing associate broker of D. MottL Realty Group’s new Dowagiac location, opening in 2015.

Forburger said the Parade of Halloween Hounds is open to children, adults and families that would like to dress up their dog in Halloween attire and parade them on Front Street. Participation in the parade is free of charge. Pet owners will gather outside Dowagiac City Hall on Front Street at 11 a.m. and parade to the Haggin-Wimberley Memorial Bandstand at Beckwith Park for judging.

Forburger, who opened her pet grooming business in 2011, said her employees love this time of the year. “Pet lovers go out of their way to find the perfect costume for their dog,” Forburger said. “Our judges are excited to see all of the creative costumes.”

All participants will receive something special from Dog E Style. Forburger said the best costume winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to Dog E Style, which can be used for any service.

Under the Harvest Moon, which is celebrating its fourth season, has been underwritten by The Pokagon Fund, Creative Vinyl Signs, Charlie Dohm, Dowagiac Area History Museum, the Edward Jones office of Kim MacGregor, Forest Glen Assisted Living, Hale’s Hardware, Leader Publications, Skibbe Business & Tax Service, Smoke Vision Care, Sustainable Recycling, Town & Country Garden Club and William’s A-1 Expert Tree Service.
