What food comforts you?

Everyone has a favorite comfort food — a go-to meal or recipe for rainy days that is a surefire remedy for any funk or bad mood.

For me, it’s my mom’s homemade chicken and noodles. I have so many memories of the sounds of the pressure cooker boiling the chicken, the smell of the broth wafting through the house and the flour that is prone to streak my mom’s forehead as she rolls out the homemade noodles.

When I was growing up, if I had a difficult test or a tough time with a friend, I always had a pretty good guess of what would be on the dinner table that night.

As I got older and went off to college, I craved the meal on chilly days, and my mom was known to show up with enormous batches to tide me over during finals week.

Comfort foods are different for everyone. Some people crave chocolate cake after a bad day. Others want hot chili or a secret family recipe when they are feeling down.

I’m interested in hearing what this go-to meal is for you.

Leader Publications’ new magazine, Michiana Life launches this November, in the heart of comfort food season. The goal of this new publication is to cater to the people in Michiana by creating a unique reading experience that stands out from the competitors. To do this, we will feature many of the people, places and culture the area has to offer.

Each issue of the magazine will feature a recipe or two submitted by our readers. For our first issue, we are looking for recipes that fit this “comfort food” theme.

On our website, anyone can submit as many of their favorite comfort food recipes as they want for the opportunity to win a $25 gift card to a Michiana restaurant for every recipe published.

Contestants are encouraged to upload a high-resolution photograph of the finished recipe, but may submit recipes with or without the photo.

Winners will be chosen by Michiana Life staff, and their names will run with the recipes and photos in the magazine.

To enter, those interested can submit recipes through this link through Oct. 31. Winners will be announced in the November issue of the magazine.

If you struggle with the contest interface, please feel free to email recipes and photographs directly to my email at ambrosia.neldon@leaderpub.com.

I look forward to trying your favorite meals and sharing them with the readers of Michiana Life. Who knows? Maybe I’ll find a backup go-to recipe for the next rainy day.
