Niles senior wide receiver Ra’Quon Glenn has been turning heads for the past two seasons.

Last year Glenn tied a state record with 17 receptions and moved into third place with 351 yards in a loss against Portage Central.

Last week against Kalamazoo Central, Glenn tied his state mark for receptions and finished with 338 yards receiving.

The Vikings are headed to Portage Central Friday night and Glenn will need another big game to give Niles a chance to pull off the upset and move within a game of qualifying for the state playoffs.

“I saw a kid with a lot of potential and attitude that had never been pushed out of his comfort zone or been held accountable on the field or court,” Niles coach Antwon Jones said of his first impression of Glenn. “So I knew if I could push him harder and be on him harder than anyone before, he would become a great young man and player. Each year the pressure I put on him has continued to increase.”

Glenn not only catches the ball for the Vikings, but runs it, which fits right into Jones’ offensive philosophy.

“In our offense, you have to be able to play multiple positions not just one,” he said. “Because of the nature of the offense you may have to play fullback, running back, tight end wide receiver or slot because of the pace we play at and because we don’t do personnel groups often.”

With four games remaining on the schedule, Jones said it is up to Glenn on whether he breaks any more records.

“That will be up to him as he is in control of that,” he said. “The system we run will allow you to do many things if you choose to do it and keep the right attitude and remembering that it’s a team not and I.”

Portage Central comes into Friday’s game with a 3-1 record.

The Mustangs’ only loss of the year came in Week 2 against Lakeshore (20-17).

Portage Central has scored a combined 84 points in wins against Benton Harbor and Gull Lake.

Kickoff for the SMAC West Division contest is set for 7 p.m.

Bronson at Brandywine

The Bobcats are home once again and it is Homecoming for Brandywine.

The Bobcats are 4-1 on the season following a dramatic 27-26 win over Cassopolis last Friday.

Bronson brings a 0-5 mark into the contest. The Vikings have given up 41 or more points in each of its losses and has scored just 34 points the entire season.

Bronson is coming off a 54-0 pounding by Mendon, which defeated Brandywine 27-19 two weeks ago.

Seniors Andrew Duckett and Marty Ward Jr. continue to dominate their opponents.

Duckett ran for 154 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns, while Ward added 57 yards and a score.

Kickoff for the BCS Athletic Conference game is 7 p.m.
