One goal proved to be the difference as the Dowagiac soccer team snapped visiting Brandywine’s 11-match winning streak Saturday.

The Chieftains got a goal from leading scorer Jorge Ruiz in the 23rd minute and then held off the Bobcats 1-0 in a non-league match.

In a defensive minded contest, Dowagiac was still able to get off 11 shots against Brandywine. The Bobcats managed eight shots on goal.

Harpeet Singh stopped eight shots for Dowagiac and Sean Danner seven for Brandywine.

The Chieftains are now 6-6 on the year, while the Bobcats drop to 11-3.

“We played a complete 80 minutes today,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “Offensively and defensively we were strong. I am happy with the way we played.”
