Totten is right choice for attorney general

Mark Totten, Democratic candidate for Michigan attorney general, was recently endorsed by our state’s former governor, William Milliken, a Republican.

In his endorsement statement, Milliken said, “As I have come to know Mark Totten, I have found him to be an outstanding individual who is highly qualified to be Michigan’s attorney general. Based on his record, I know he will use the office to protect consumers, protect the environment, advocate for badly needed ethics reform in government, take on violent crime, champion criminal justice reform and protect the civil rights of Every Michigan Record.”

Mark Totten is a law professor at Michigan State University where he teaches courses on criminal justice and ethics to future prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges. In recent years he has also served as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Western District of Michigan. In that role he has protected children from child predators, protected victims of domestic violence from their abusers and protected senior citizens and other borrowers from predatory lenders.

The attorney general is supposed to be the “people’s lawyer.” Unfortunately, Michigan’s current attorney general, Bill Schuette, has focused on his own political career, not the people of Michigan.

Mark Totten is the right choice to become Michigan’s next attorney general. On Nov., 4, I hope you will join me in voting for this outstanding individual.
