The Niles volleyball team has spent the better part of a month on the road to open the 2014 season.

The Vikings made short work of Benton Harbor in its home opener Wednesday,

Niles defeated the Tigers 25-9, 25-5 and 25-11 in a SMAC West Division match.

“Tonight was a total team effort,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “I was able to give every girl on our team playing time and we were able to maintain intensity and win big every set.

“We went into this match with a goal of working hard, staying completely focused and working together as a team. Even when we were up with very big leads, the girls never let up and that’s not always easy to do when there is such a disproportionate score.”
