Robert “Bob” Farr, 75, of Niles, passed away on Monday, Sept. 15 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, following an illness.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1939, in Benton Harbor, Michigan to the late Alfred E. and Mary R. (O’Donnell) Farr.

Bob was a lifelong Niles resident, graduating from Niles High School Class of 1958. On Aug. 17, 1963, Bob married Agnes L. Burch at a ceremony in Niles. He furthered his education at Lake Michigan College, where he studied law enforcement. He was a retired Niles Township Police Officer where he was dedicated to serving his community.

Bob was instrumental in starting the K-9 Unit and many will remember his partner Caesar. After retirement, he turned his hobby into a business, owning and operating Farr and Sons Sporting Goods. He was a gifted gunsmith and enjoyed hunting. He was a gifted carpenter and enjoyed watching Notre Dame football. He was a talented cook and baker and mostly enjoyed time spent with his family. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Agnes Farr of Niles; three daughters; Rebecca Farr-Lapham of Niles, Theresa Brady of Niles and Melissa (Kevin) Asmus of Niles; two sons, Stephen and Patrick “Buddy” Farr both of Niles; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother David (Joan) Farr of Niles.

A Memorial Mass will be held to celebrate the life of Robert “Bob” Farr on Sept. 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. An interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church School Fund.
